Building entrepreneurship among poor Mayan indigenous women and assisting business in emerging countries to export to Sweden
On the evening a large gathering of friends of SWECA gathered to listen to a very interesting presentation by Mrs. Kristina Boman where she presented her non-profiot foundation Fundación Progresar which she launched in 2010 with the aim of improving the quality of life of poor rural women in the Quiche province of Guatemala.
Kristinas presentation was then followed by a much appreciated presentation from Mr. Mr. Cyrille Hugon and Ms. Anamaria Deliu, Trade policy advisers from the National Board of Trade Sweden on the different ways the Board of Trade can assist and facilitate companies interested in exporting to Sweden. The main tool for this is the Open Trade Gate site where interested individuals and companies can seek advise from the specialist of the Board regarding regulatory requirements for exporting to Sweden and the European Union.
The evening ended after refreshements and interesting discussions and one very happy lottery winner left the event with a bottle of the finest Guatemalan rum.

PRESENTATION OF AN OWNER OF A LATIN AMERICAN COMPANY AND EXPERIENCES FROM DOING BUSINESS IN CENTRAL AMERICA
Nils Ekman’s family moved to Latin America in the 1970’s and he is constantly travelling for business between Central America, Colombia and Sweden. During the evening Mr. Ekman shared some of his vast knowledge of the region and Central America in particular from a business perspective. The participants had the opportunity to listen to and discuss various topics such as trade facilitation, business climate and the implications of the various Free Trade Agreements available in Central America. Meeting with the newly appointed Swedish Ambassador to the Central American Region, H.E. Mr. Anders Kompass.
On Thursday the 16th of November, the Swedish Central American Chamber of Commerce invited to a first meeting with the newly appointed Swedish Ambassador to the Central American Region, H.E. Mr. Anders Kompass.
During this meeting, Ambassador Kompass shared his vast experience in working with the Central American countries, as well as his vision for the relationship between Sweden and the region. The participants had the opportunity to discuss several topics regarding the trade relationship, including the Association Agreement, tourism, as well as Swedish exportable environmental solutions.

Visit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador
Doing Business in El Salvador - Challenges & Opportunities: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, Hugo Martínez, visited Stockholm and engaged in a seminar about the benefits for Swedish companies and investors of doing business in El Salvador. Mr. Martínez emphasized the strategical location of the country, a qualified work force, legal incentives, preferential access to international markets, and competitive costs. Meeting wih Ericsson: During his visit, the Minister also met with SWECA and high executives at Ericsson to recognize the 102 years of the company's presence in El Salvador, the first Central American country where it established operations. Mr. Martínez emphasized that the Salvadoran telecommunications market ensures high quality services, with a direct interconnection with the United States, Latin America and the rest of the world. El Salvador, he said, is one of the most dynamic and connected countries, with an average growth of fixed and mobile lines of 4% and 26% respectively; plus 22% of the population is now internet users. The Minister also recognized Ericsson on behalf of the Government and the Salvadoran people for contributing to the country for the past 102 years, not least through its corporate social responsibility programs supporting communities through educational centers. SWECA Annual Meeting
The Board of 2016 was elected, with Per Gunnar Jönsson, lawyer and consul of Belize, as the new President of SWECA.
The outgoing Board members were recognized and thanked for their service.
Guest speaker Jonas Borglin, CEO at NIR - Näringslivets Internationella Råd (International Council of Swedish Industry) shared some valuable insights into how they assist Swedish companies to advance their potential in challenging markets and work actively to contribute to sustainable development in these countries. Business Opportunities in El Salvador
SWECA hosted a presentation in the premises of Business Sweden by the Ambassador of El Salvador, H.E. Martin Rivera Gómez, with the title "Business Opportunities in El Salvador". As the Ambassador expressed, El Salvador competiveness lies mostly in the country's strategic location and the high quality of it's labour force. Furthermore, the Free Trade component of the Association Agreement soon to be ratified with the European Union will surely increase the trade between Sweden and El Salvador.
The main areas where investments could be made include Medical Devices, Offshore Busniess Services, Health Services, Specialized Textiles, Aeronautics, Electronics, Tourism, Agro-Industry, Logistics and Infrastructure, and Footwear.

Hamburg Süd: The Container Communication with Central America
SWECA hosted a prestentation by the Managing Director of Hamburg Süd Sweden, Mr. Göran Petersson, where the shipping giant exposed how the shipping industry works in general, and more specifically how the export/import from Europe to Central America looks. The title of the presentation was "The Container Communication with Central America".
After the presentation, a mingle followed as usual, were the participants had the opportunity to ask more questions to Mr. Göran Petersson, the Ambassadors present, as well as the SWECA board.

Business opportunities of the Association Agreement between the EU and Central America
SWECA had the honour to host a presentation by H.E. Michael Frühling, the Swedish Ambassador in Central America, at the Swedish Trade Council, as well as presentations by the National Board of Trade and Open Trade Gate Sweden.
The presentation was well-attended, as more than 30 people listened to the Ambassador talk about the Swedish Government perspective about doing business with Central America. The National Board of Trade presented the legal implications of the Free Trade Agreement part of the Association Agreement that is being signed between Central America and the EU. Mr. Erik Lindén, representing Open Trade Gate Sweden, also explained how Open Trade Gate can help exporting companies from Central America, as well as importing companies in Sweden. After the presentations, the Embassy of El Salvador offered refreshments, and the discussions continued, where the interested representatives from Swedish companies could directly ask questions to the ambassadors, as well as representatives of other organizations, present.Sep 20, 2012
Ericsson: Study Visit
Ericsson hosted SWECA for a Study Visit to their Studio in Kista, where Mr. Ulf Pehrsson, Vice President for Government and Industry Relations, held a presentation about the long history, and expected future of Ericsson in Central America, as well as Ericsson's vision of the future of a more Networked Society.
The presentation was followed by a reception generously hosted by Ericsson.

SWECA's 2012 Annual General Meeting. The Chamber was very happy to receive the President of EURACEN (Chamber of Commerce Europe-Central America), Mr. Christian Meeùs, who spoke about the experience of EURACEN since 1990. The event also included a speech by Mr. Gunnar Oom, Swedish State Secretary of Trade, regarding “Business Opportunities in Central America”.

Environmental Studies for Sustainable Energy Development in Honduras
SWECA held a seminar in collaboration with ÅF and Swedish Green Tech Arena, titled “Environmental Studies for Sustainable Energy Development in Honduras” with a speech by the Senior Consultant of the project from ÅF, Dr. Bernt Rydgren, where he spoke about the Patuca III Project. He was followed by Mr. Björn Back, representing Swedish Green Tech Arena, an NGO specialized on matchmaking Swedish Green Tech companies with international counterparts. The ambassad of Honduras served light refreshments after the presentations.
